Using QR Codes Effectively in Marketing

Strategies for maximizing scan rates and campaign ROI.

A QR code is only valuable if people scan it. Here is how to maximize engagement.

Provide context — tell people what to expect

Never place a QR code without a call-to-action. 'Scan to get 20% off' or 'Scan to see the full menu' dramatically increases scan rates compared to an unlabeled code.

Place codes where scanning is easy

  • At eye level or table height — not floor level or out of reach.
  • In well-lit areas — dark environments reduce scan success.
  • Avoid reflective laminated surfaces that cause glare.

Use dynamic QR codes for campaigns

For any marketing campaign, use dynamic QR codes so you can update the landing page without reprinting. Send early traffic to a teaser page, then switch to the live offer page on launch day.

Track and iterate

Use QR Node analytics to see which placements generate the most scans. Compare campaigns across locations, time periods, and materials. Double down on what works.

Tip: Create a separate QR code for each placement (e.g. one for the window poster, one for the receipt, one for the table tent). This lets you compare scan rates per placement and optimize budget.
