Maintaining QR Codes Long-Term

How to keep your QR codes healthy and reliable over months and years.

A QR code you print today may be scanned years from now. Here is how to ensure long-term reliability.

Keep your account active

Dynamic QR codes continue to work as long as your QR Node account is in good standing. Make sure your subscription is renewed and your payment method is up to date.

Update destination URLs instead of replacing codes

When a product page, promotion, or event URL changes, update the destination in QR Node rather than discarding and reprinting. This preserves all historical scan analytics and keeps your materials current.

Audit your codes periodically

  • Review your QR code list every quarter.
  • Test-scan codes that are being actively displayed.
  • Check analytics for unexpected traffic drops which may indicate the destination URL has broken.
  • Archive or delete codes for campaigns that are permanently retired.

Tip: If a destination URL you control changes (e.g. you migrate your website), update the destination in QR Node before the old URL goes offline. There is no downtime for your QR code.
